Sheffield Botanical Gardens

Can I come out yet? Is it here yet?

Just when you think it’s safe to venture out, another cold snap hits! Dammit – where is Spring?

However, earlier in the week we managed to catch a few rays of sunshine as we headed out to Sheffield Botanical Gardens which is about an hour’s drive away. I’ve never visited the gardens before but I’m pretty sure I’ll be doing so again. A beautiful place and so peaceful – and free to enter (which is my very favourite price).

There isn’t much around yet but I’m sure it will be a riot of colour come the summer months. That said, it’s nice to visit out of season and see what can be found. Highlight of the day for me was a beautiful King Protea just beginning to open. This thing is huge – about the size of my hand from tip to base. I’m going to have to go back to see what it looks like when fully open. Once we’d done there, we decided to drive back through the Peak and stop off at Curbar for a wondrous view and to blow away any remaining cobwebs. Now back to the warmth of indoor flowers . . .
